For Immediate Release:

Beach Hillel launches KJEW Radio

(Long Beach CA, Oct 20, 2006)  This Jewish New Year, 5767, a new and unique Jewish sound will be hitting the internet radio-waves.  It’s not borsht belt ballads or Fiddler on the Roof. Its KJEW Radio, broadcasting live and 24/7 from Long Beach.

KJEW radio was created by Jewish college students and graduates, under the auspices of Beach Hillel, to provide Jews students, graduates and young professionals music and talk radio that has a Jewish twist.

In addition to entertainment and talk shows, KJEW Radio will also keep students aware  of local and regional programs and resources. KJEW radio was “created because many college students wish to keep in tune with the community, but don’t always have the time to be active within it,” states Rachel Schiff, Director of Marketing for KJEW Radio.

The idea for KJEW started over a Hillel Shabbat dinner with students and grads thinking of new ideas to reach the many young Jews that are uninvolved. Rachel Schiff blurted out “what about KJEW radio?”  Soon the room was abuzz with plans for the station.

Beach Hillel’s Director, Rachel Bookstein, and Rabbi Yonah Bookstein, realized that without Hillel’s stewardship, KJEW might never get off the ground.   They decided that Beach Hillel would became the driving force behind creating the station. “It was a natural choice for Hillel. KJEW offers many students the opportunity to be involved in a positive Jewish program, and reach out to the larger, unaffiliated young Jewish community with a pro-Jewish, pro-Israel message,” comments Rachel Bookstein.

“It’s going to be like a radio version of Jewlicious—our nationally recognized student conference and festival—only year round.  I am so proud of the work and dedication that is going into this project, and am grateful to the Alpert family who have stepped up to help get this station on the air,” remarked Rabbi Yonah.

KJEW Radio is an internet broadcast station that is available worldwide.  It’s modern Jewish student flare is the first of its kind. No other station offers kevtching, a Jewish dating show, Israeli and American music, Jewish news world wide, and an all Jewish cast. This nonprofit radio station is sure to get people talking and listening.
